Welcome to the Monarch Internship and Co-Op Virtual Internship Office!
The Monarch Internship and Co-Op Office (MICO) is ODU’s central hub for work-based learning—now available anytime, anywhere through our new Virtual Office. Serving 24,000+ students, MICO connects undergraduates, graduate students, ODUGlobal learners, and lifelong learners to internships and co-ops 24/7.
Recognized with the 2025 Hampton Roads Workforce Council Innovation Award 🏆, MICO is redefining workforce development by ensuring every Monarch completes a meaningful work-based learning experience before graduation. Click to see the office video!

Through free transcript recognition courses (UNIV 68/GRAD 668), the Professional Attire Wardrobe (PAW), the 757-683-JOBS hotline, $800K+ in internship support and research grants, and the $5M Monarch Humanities Internship Academy, MICO expands access to opportunities in high-demand fields like cybersecurity, education, public health, and maritime industries.
What You’ll Find in Our Virtual Office

Complementing Our Campus Services
Our physical office at 1007 Webb Center on main campus in Norfolk, Virginia, continues to serve as a vibrant space for in-person advising, employer visits, and walk-in support. The Virtual Office complements this by giving you the flexibility to access MICO’s guidance and resources on your schedule because internship success shouldn’t stop when the office doors close.
A Note to Faculty and Employers
Faculty and employers are essential partners in helping us reach our goal of 100% student participation in internships and work-based learning (WBL) by 2027.
Faculty can use this Virtual Office to:
- Connect with employers seeking student talent
- Direct students to internship and co-op opportunities
- Publicize discipline-specific events and career panels
- Post departmental internships and other WBL opportunities tied to your academic programs
Employers can:
- Post internships, co-ops, and other career-connected roles
- Partner with MICO to build custom internship pipelines
- Explore ways to connect with ODU students through events, job fairs, and university-employer agreements
Together, we can help students gain meaningful experience and prepare for what’s next while building strong partnerships across campus and the region.
